The guide of this tour, Mr. Renato, besides possessing a deep knowledge about Ilha Grande, is extremely concerned with the environmental preservation thereof. In his home, he takes care of orchids and bromeliads from Ilha Grande. He is actively involved in projects related to the environment such as preservation of the Jataí bee, extinction of coral-sun (which is causing imbalance in the marine fauna of the bay of Ilha Grande), and he volunteers to clean the beaches of the biological reserve of South Beach. Renato also plays an important social role in helping and supporting local communities who are victims of harassment of powerful economic interests.
