Asalem Seaside Hideaway
Sustainability
André Cypriano is a professional photographer from São Paulo City. André and Bianka have been travelers for many years and wanted to have a healthier lifestyle close to the ocean. André first visited Ilha Grande as surfer and then made a photography documentary called Caldeirao do Diabo. The opportunity to find a piece of land at the right time presented itself and as a business administrator, he decided to embrace it. Safety was a strong point towards the decision of staying and starting the business that has been open since 2003. In the beginning, Asalem had no electricity. Little by little, André and Bianka have been improving their pousada, but have kept the low light because of its beauty and as a means to save energy. They want to keep the Asalem Seaside Hideway small to ensure guests receive special attention in Ilha Grande.
The simple description André gives about Asalem seaside Hideway is, "Secluded and in the middle of the jungle with 2 beaches on each side, Asalem, although close to the village, is far enough away to offer privacy and tranquility. We serve delicious dishes in our restaurant, which is private and only serves our guests. Bianka and I love the beautiful views and comfort and hope you will too."

Environmental preservation / Supporting local culture
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Want to feel one with nature in a beautiful secluded setting, whilst helping to contribute to a pristine environment for future visitors? Part of the profits from a stay at the Asalem Seaside Hideway will be put towards local environmental initiatives that aim to preserve and protect the area's natural resources. The most recent project involved 110 people who collected 12 tonnes of rubbish from the three largest beaches on the island.
At Asalem Seaside Hideaway they are also very much committed to supporting the local community, who you will be lucky enough to meet during your stay since local staff members will accommodate you. The hotel is investing in the career development of its local staff through training, workshops and English tuition. A community newspaper is also given financial assistance by the accommodation and as you sip on one of the delicious cocktails on offer, you can rest assured the fruits and juices are either hand-picked on the property, or bought from the locals.
